Emerging Author, Lanisha Porter, Doesn’t Just Dream for Herself, but for the Generations Ahead.5/15/2019
Nonetheless, while Lanisha presents to be a very accomplished young woman with a robust work ethic, she will be the first to tell you that at times she worried and wondered if she was doing it all right. “Raised by a single father”, she admits, “many questions befell me about womanhood and navigating life while lacking the sure-footed guidance that a maternal presence offers.” She continues on to say that that’s why her new book [Maximizing Her] is so special because she believes it will be a safe harbor for others who may also feel challenged and without guide. Miss Porter invites us to know that chapter 2 in her book— entitled “Men are Flawed”—is one of her favorites because it’s one of her more reflective and authentic offerings. “It focuses on a call-to-action to a historic issue” says the young writer. “I talk about being startled to learn that infidelity is not so uncommon especially among the most respectable men.” She confesses, “such a reality was a threat to my own girlhood dreams kicking personal anxieties into high gear.” “The internal upset caused by unfaithfulness” she continues, “that can pollute families for years to come, is something I hope people will be more cognizant of and refrain from.” She adds that while she’s aware that both sexes cheat, she quietly points out that there seems to be a cone of normalcy protecting the trespasses of men as nothing more than a biological destiny. Flipping through the pages of chapter 2, seemingly to jog her memory, she concludes by cautioning “how someone treats you in a relationship is not at all indicative of your self-worth. I implore my readers to think about a question I left unattended through much of my girlhood—the riddle of what I would and wouldn’t accept as a woman.” Inspired by what was once a distant and strained relationship with her own mother, Lanisha hopes this book is a generational keepsake answering the budding questions that her own daughters may someday ask far in the future. “Maximizing Her” is available at www.
