Networking is the brother of opportunity. From all the conferences, meetings, and professional development I've had the chance to participate in, one thing has been resoundingly clear--if you want something you have to take the chance. Sometimes chasing opportunity and chance can be quite the task to undertake, let alone getting in the same room as it. Therefore, when chance and opportunity are in front of you, you have to dive in. Below you will access some of the email follow-up messages that have allowed me to "dive-in" to opportunities I wouldn't have otherwise had. Feel free to use these template emails for your own good.
FOLLOW-UP RULES:
- Do so within 7 days after initial meeting
- Remember details about that person or their story
- Always greet with the proper salutation

1Greetings [ ], I hope times have smiled warmly upon you since we last spoke. This is Lanisha Porter. In case you are like me and occasionally experience a lapse of memory, I spoke at the Wildwood Country Club last Saturday during the JCTA scholarship award ceremony. I hope that lights a bulb for you (smiles). I just wanted to connect with you and be sure to stay in touch. In efforts to do so, I have already added you to Monday Motivation E-mail List…I hope this was okay. Once again, thank you for your service. I was impressed to hear a bit about the spaces you occupy and influence on our students. In response to your inquiry, I would definitely love to come and speak with your students. For me, telling my story is far more than relaying a series of events. Storytelling for me is personal because it’s a portal for empowerment—it’s all about sharing my beginning and middle, in hopes that someone listening may be encouraged to strive for their end. Just let me know when you would like me to come and we can discuss the details. Let’s make this happen!! I hope to talk soon. Best, Lanisha D.
