For years I believed I held the same convictions that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s protest offered, which says “a feminist is someone who believes in the political, social, and economic equality of the sexes.” However, if you study anything long enough, the devil in the details will begin to emerge. That’s what I want to talk about today. Here’s why I don’t necessarily believe in gender equality. |
Now, as a feminist it would be ideal for me to petition that women should have the right to enjoy many sexual conquests and bypass the harsh labels that will come with it—because afterall, she is just a sexual being fulfilling her “biological destiny."

During my college career, I’ve witnessed disbelief become a cultural trend. For many of my peers, choosing not to believe in anything was more safe and logical than sorting through so many unverified offerings of what could be true.

The black woman is always working overtime to ensure the survival of herself, and those she came with. She is divinely organized; able to handle more than she should without much reward. She is the root of the family unit. And most notably, she is at work even when we least expect it.

You rushed into it…you didn’t pray about it…you ignored the red flags…and/or you compromised on the values you really shouldn’t have.
But where’s the blog that speaks to the ones that did everything right but you still failed. You didn’t rush; matter of fact you almost stalled the relationship because you were waiting for your prayers to be returned. You weren’t quiet about the red flags you saw. You were a team player but you weren’t a pushover…and yet you STILL. Got. It. Wrong!! “How did this happen?” You wonder in frustration.
May I offer this?

One way a dominant person in a relationship will try to assert their power is through manipulation. Perhaps they may make you feel as though you have options to express yourself; however, in expressing yourself they impose extreme alternatives on you. Maybe they ask you to move out, threaten to break up with you, or warn that if you keep making the same requests you’re going to upset them.

"When a woman recognizes the powerful pull that her sexuality has, she learns that it becomes even more of a power when harnessed. Understanding how to leverage your inner forces to deal with the outside world is a skill not many sharpen. "

The thing about life is that there is no correct way to do it. There’s popular opinion, and cultural relativism but at the end of the day, there are no universal rights or wrongs held by everyone. In time, you will see that much of life becomes trial and error experiences done without a guideline. With that in mind, we too learn that living life boils down to taking risks. One thing is true about life and that is everything will turn out. Someway, somehow, someplace, sometime…everything will turn out. But how?...... |

by: Lanisha Porter | Upon the release of my first book, "Things I Never Talk About", I used the slogan "Books Over Boys" to promote a very important takeaway I had hoped all the young ladies would keep long after reading my book. This takeaway was to prioritize the establishment of self before investing heavily into any romantic relationships. Far too often I see young women undercut their own opportunities and opt to be a relationship. |

So you’ve blinked back your tears, and day after day you’ve tried to see the world through glossy eyes blurred with deep disappointment and stains of resentment. You probably thought crying over him was a weak thing to do but in fact it was the very cleansing you needed. And now, you realize something.
It’s okay to finally let go and never look back.
